Faith and reason are like two wings on which the human spirit rises to the contemplation of truth; and God has placed in the human heart a desire to know the truth—in a word, to know himself—so that, by knowing and loving God, men and women may also come to the fullness of truth about themselves (cf. Ex 33:18; Ps 27:8-9; 63:2-3; Jn 14:8; 1 Jn 3:2). [Fides et Ratio]

In the beginning...

Hello! I'm starting this blog as an accompaniment to my Facebook page Catholic Teen.

On this blog, I'll post at least weekly articles (hopefully) on whatever I feel to be relevant; church teaching, figures in history, personal reflections, commentaries on Bible passages, and even music reviews. Or maybe movie reviews. I will post on anything I find relevant for Catholics living in this world.

But for this ever important first blog post, I feel the need to state why I do this. Why I do what I do.
Why do I do this? I do this for a lot of reasons. I do this because when I look about, I see so many people, so many good people, all of them searching for something. Searching for something they don't even know they're looking for. They're searching for God.

We're all like a pile of sticks and kindling just sitting there, waiting for a spark to ignite the sticks, to turn it into a roaring fire, a fire that will give warmth for ourselves, as well as others. A fire that will light the world. A fire that will light other fires.

Why do I do this? I do this for a lot of reasons. I do this because when I look about, I see so many people, so many good people, all of them searching for something. Searching for something they don't even know they're looking for. They're searching for God.

And if I can light that spark, that one spark that ignites that one fire, that brings that one person closer to God, then I'm happy. I've accomplished what I set out to do.

I also do this because I look around, and I see Catholics, and people who claim to be Catholic, who really aren't Catholic. Whether it's by any fault of their own, or some other reason, they've lost their spark. Or they were never given that spark. Or they ignore that spark. They are Catholic in much the same way my mailman is a Jehovah's Witness. (He's not, it was a joke)

I see it in elected leaders, I see it in coworkers, I see it in friends. I see it all around.

I see it in people who call themselves 'Ex' or 'Reformed Catholics,' who claim that they found 'truth' in some random religious sect. And all I can really think is 'No you didn't. You couldn't handle the fact that there are rules in life,' or, 'No, you left because they allow you to use contraceptives.' As my mother once put it "Most people leave the Church for below the belt reasons."

I see people who just don't know. People who were improperly catechized. People who were never catechized at all. People who have lost sight of the light.
And that's why I have made this page. That's why I'm starting this blog. Because if I can bring one person to the light, if I can bring just one person, then I have succeeded, and this has all been worth it.

I think that made sense. Anyway, thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to read this. Please like the page and follow the blog. Have a blessed day!

**please note, I'm playing around with things, so this may look weird. Or it might not. Carry on.**
